The TDA are offering a range of excellent new services for refugee teachers - we encourage you all to contact them!
Call the Teaching Information Line on 0800 389 2500 to register for the services below. Specially trained advisors are on hand to help you.
Trained refugee specific advisors
We recently trained 3 Teaching Information Line advisors so they are able to answer questions you might have, and signpost you to courses and other services. You can now call them! They are very nice, very knowledgable about teaching, and have an understanding of what issues you might have getting back into teaching. To speak to one of the TIL advisors specifically for refugees, just tell them you are from the Refugees into Teaching project when you call 0800 389 2500.
School Experience Programme
The Schools Experience Programme is designed so you can observe and experience teaching in a classroom. It is for people interested in secondary school experience. Normally, the SEP is only for some priority subjects, but if you are a refugee you can observe any subject. This is something we have discussed with the TDA to help refugee teachers specifically. Therefore, when you register through the teaching information line, please mention Refugees into Teaching. There is some flexibility in the programme - you can attend the school for between 1 and 10 days. You can apply for the SEP by calling the Teaching Information Line (TIL) on 0800 389 2500, mentioning RiT.
Teaching Advocates Programme
The Teaching Advocates Programme is a service where you can speak to a teacher, and ask them questions about being in the classroom in the UK and their experiences. They can share their knowledge on topics such as behaviour management, workload management, subject knowledge and the curriculum. You can talk to a teaching advocate by phone or e-mail, and sometimes face-to-face at TDA events.
Call the Teaching Information Line on 0800 085 0962. The consultants can help you decide whether talking to a teaching advocate is right for you, and arrange an appointment. Please mention you are registered with RiT.
How to contact the TDA:
